Three Decades
of Excellence - Forward Integration in Retrospect
Ideas need
wings, and wheels, too. TC Dayalan, the founder
of the Manam Group, did exactly that, investing
his ideas with imagination and initiative.
The Group came into being in 1975 in a tool
room in the Guindy Industrial Estate in Chennai.
With his vast experience in fabrication and
die-casting, Dayalan had earned the trust
and business of automobile, electrical, electronic
and household appliances industries by meeting
their tooling requirements for pressure die-casting
components. It did not take him long to anticipate
the need for specialised services and see
the possibilities for forward integration.
The idea took shape, and Southern Pressure
Castings, the pressure die-casting foundry,
was born in 1981.
The establishment of Southern
Accessories Private Limited in 1986 and a
machine shop complete with CNC machinery in
1994 were significant steps in forward integration.
A winner of the Best Entrepreneur
Award from the Tamilnadu Government in 1988,
Dayalan envisioned the need for specialised
service as well as forward integration. He
established The Southern Pressure Castings,
a pressure die casting foundry in Chennai
in 1981.
Southern accessories Private
Limited, a subsidiary was setup on 1986. A
machine shop came up, complete with CNC machines,
in 1994. It was yet another step in forward
integration.
D.Jayavijayan, a mechanical
engineer, joined the business as a Director
in 1995. The following year, the Manam group
clinched a technical collaboration with Villiers
Limited, UK, to manufacture portable, multi-fuel
internal combustion engines. Manam is the
only company in India with Villiers collaboration.
Today Manam group has 3
major companies, 30 years in business, INR
300 million turnover, 10 product and service
categories, 5 manufacturing units, 300 employees,
